The Right Type of Oil For Your Outdoor Oil Heater

Many people have outdoor oil heaters in their backyards, and they have to work hard to keep them working properly. After they are brought up to the right temperature, they may work fine for a while, but the oil can run out and the thermostat will be so hot that it will burn out the motor. Or, it could just be the wrong kind of oil.

You need special oil for your heater if you don’t know the difference. I will give you the names and tell you how to replace them.

For this one, you just fill it up with oil. You are going to put this in a bathtub or any other container and heat it to a correct temperature that will keep the heater running. Here is the difference:

These can be used with a cordless electric hot water heater, but it can also be used with an outdoor gas heater. This is probably the most common way to use them. But, if you don’t have a cordless electric model and you want to keep using gas instead, you can find some that will do this also.

This kind has an oil reservoir that has an open top that will let the oil come out. Then you pour the oil into the reservoir, add the fuel, and wait for it to warm up. This does require special oil for this one, so it is best to get a bottle with the right label.

These can be found in specialty stores, like Sears or K-Mart, or maybe even special brand retailers. You should try to get the store with the special label, because you never know if the name was printed by a big manufacturer or by a company that makes no special labels at all.

The way to know the right brand for this is to get someone to do some tests to see what the oils are really made of. If you are doing it yourself, you can get some special instructions for what to do if the oil runs out and your heater will not work. You will also need to change the oil sometimes, so you want the right oil for your heater.
